Korça is an Albanian town on the borders of Albania

Korça is an Albanian town on the borders of Albania, Greece and Macedonia. It is known for its bazaar which unfortunately is now in a semi-abandonned state. In fact it is often associated with the music which for centuries was composed and sung whilst walking with a guitar on the  kalldr ë m,  the round cobblestones, or in the warmth of a  han  or  kafené. They seem indifferent to the Ottoman architecture interlaced with the Western style of the early 1900s, to the ancient doors, the town scape which has resisted the waves of time for a good three centuries. The Pazar no longer feels like a place to settle in to spend a few hours chatting, meeting friends and passing some of the day, but just somewhere to dive into the crowd and the garish goods on display, to shop, say hello and hurry away. Can this really be the Bazaar of the Serenades, the heart of the most romantic and advanced town in the country? The answer comes pragmatically from a seller of spices, poor...

The oldest source of water in Elbasan is considered the Spring of Mansi, near the ancient station of Via Egnatia with a history of over 2,000 years. The aqueduct of Elbasan is thought to have been built around 1700 years ago, when the construction of the castle also dates back. Each alley has inherited for centuries taps, the oldest forms of water supply for the families of the castle. The oldest taps of the city are thought to have been around the churches. Then the expansion came outside the walls of the castle. Old ceramic pipes discovered during various archaeological and spontaneous excavations have shown that this city had a developed supply network for drinking water. The silence of this city for several centuries caused this old network to be reused during the reconstruction of the fortress by the Turks. A Turkish model that we still inherit today is the Fountain of Bezistan, which is thought to be over 300 years old. Likewise, inside the castle, apart from the sporadic ev...

Elbasan1916

Elbasan City Center  ( Right at the city centre. ).  Only two ancient walls remain but the area inside is full of old houses and famous personalities houses, cobblestone streets, and an excellent restaurant. One castle wall is centred around the impressive sahati (clock tower). In the center of the castle are two water sources. The two-thousand-year-old Castle of Elbasan, a Roman construction built as early as the 3rd century B.C. Foreigners in the 800s noted that cities like Elbasan no longer existed in Europe. Skampis, as this fortress-town was once called, was founded in 1466 by two strikingly different leaders: the Roman emperor Justinian and Sultan Mehmet the Second.  ( updated Jul 2021  |  edit ) The  Mosque  is in the heart of the Castle and the other Mosque is in the city center. Elbasan Ethnographic Museum  – Located in the centre of the city, not far from the Castle of Elbasan, this museum is housed in a traditional two-story 18th centur...
